Burglars struck at two houses at Alampadi close to Thittakudi in Cuddalore district and allegedly made away with 107 sovereigns of jewelry and ₹7 lakh in money in the early hours of Monday.
According to police, the thieves first entered the home of Mani, 65, a financier in Alampadi, when the residents had been quick asleep, and burgled it after locking the door from inside.
Mani and his members of the family had been sleeping on the verandah of the home when the culprits entered the home via the again door and allegedly decamped with 70 sovereigns and ₹6 lakh in money.
The thieves additionally struck on the home of Ramkumar, 43, positioned close by and allegedly decamped with 37 sovereigns of jewelry and ₹1 lakh in money. Further investigations are on.
