Congress complains against Munirathna for ‘misusing’ cable TV network

The State Congress on Monday petitioned to the Election Commission of India for violation of the mannequin code of conduct by BJP candidate Munirathna in Rajarajeshwarinagar constituency, for broadcasting movies projecting himself via the cable network owned by him and distributing set-top bins.
The Congress alleged that tv channels, via cable networks, have been displaying Mr. Munirathna’s identify and {photograph} for the voters.
In a grievance to the EC via the CEO of Karnataka, KPCC working president Saleem Ahmed and former MP and authorized cell chairman V.S. Ugrappa stated the BJP candidate was an extra director of cable network Rockline Telecommunications Pvt. Ltd. and the network had been offering feeds to TV channels.
The Congress alleged that the BJP candidate freely distributed about 50,000 set-top bins, every costing ₹1,000. On October 26, whereas campaigning, Mr. Munirathna himself acknowledged that he has distributed set-top bins to voters, the grievance stated.
“These acts of Mr. Munirathna is nothing but a bribe and undue influence on the voters for the furtherance of the prospects of his election which is an offence punishable under the provision of IPC and RP Act 1951 and the model code of conduct,” the Congress stated. It additional stated that Mr. Munirathna waived the cost of costs for utilising cable providers offered for the final two months.
The Congress urged officers involved to take steps to cease the cable tv providers being broadcast by Mr. Munirathna which show his identify and images and register a prison case against him for bribing the voters.
In one other compliant to the EC, the Congress alleged that Assistant Commissioners of Police Venkatesh Naidu, Malleshwarm Sub-Division, and Srinivas Reddy, ACP, Yeshwantpur Sub-Division, have been directing subordinate law enforcement officials to register instances against employees and brokers who have been working in favour of Congress candidate Kusuma. The police officers working on the behest of Mr. Munirathna had registered instances against Congress employees, the grievance stated.
