Information and Broadcasting Ministry forms committee to review TRP guidelines

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has constituted a four-member committee to review the guidelines on tv score companies headed by Shashi Shekhar Vempati, CEO of Prasar Bharati. This comes after the Mumbai police investigations that exposed that a number of information channels had tampered with the scores.
The Ministry on Wednesday stated the prevailing guidelines had been issued after detailed deliberations by the Parliamentary committee and on the suggestions of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). These guidelines have been in operation for the previous couple of years. It stated a necessity has been felt to have a recent look protecting in view of the latest suggestions of TRAI, technological developments and for additional strengthening of the procedures for a reputable and clear score system.
The committee will perform an appraisal of the prevailing system, study TRAI suggestions notified from time to time, total business situation and handle the wants of the stakeholders, the order says.
Dr. Shalabh, Professor of Statistics from IIT Kanpur, Rajkumar Upadhyay, Executive Director of C-Dot and Professor Pulak Ghosh of Decision Sciences Centre for Public Policy are the opposite members of the committee.
