Heavy rain has claimed 4 more lives in the delta area — whereas three senior residents died in Thanjavur district, a youth was electrocuted in Mayiladuthurai.
In Thanjavur, two senior residents, Kuppusamy, 75, and his spouse Yasodha, 65, died on Thursday, after the tiled roof of their home in Siva Jothi Nagar, Darasuram, collapsed on them whereas they had been asleep. Both died on the spot. Rescue staff retrieved their our bodies and despatched them for autopsy to the Kumbakonam Government Hospital.
In a separate incident, Saradhambal, 80, of Vadakal Keezhatheru in Chakkarasamandham village, died after a portion of her home collapsed on her throughout the heavy rain on Thursday.
A 28-year-old man from Keelamathur village, in the Anaikaranchathiram police station limits, Mayiladuthurai district, died early Friday. The police have recognized the sufferer as A. Sarathkumar. He by accident stepped on a stay electrical wire that had snapped as a result of the rain, and was electrocuted, police sources mentioned.
