DRI seizes 55.61 kg gold smuggled via Myanmar border

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Thursday smashed a serious community with the seizure of 55.61 kg gold value ₹28 crore, smuggled via the Myanmar border, from eight individuals in Delhi and Lucknow. All the alleged couriers have been arrested.
Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Anurag Singh Thakur visited the workplace of the DRI’s Delhi zonal unit to congratulate the officers on the profitable operation “Golden Triangle”.

The DRI has made a number of main seizures previously six months. In November, its Guwahati unit seized 51.33 kg gold. Two extra seizures — 84 kg and 66 kg — had been made in August and November.
The company stated because of its sustained counter-smuggling measures, the syndicates have shifted their modus operandi of hiding the gold in transport automobiles to in-person concealment. In the newest operation, carried out collectively by the DRI’s Delhi and Lucknow models, the company discovered that the carriers had hid gold bars within the belts worn round their waists.
Five such couriers had been intercepted by the Delhi unit and the others by the Lucknow unit. Searches led to the seizure of 335 gold bars.
