Deputy Chief Minister and the ruling AIADMK coordinator, O. Panneerselvam skipped an official assembly chaired by Chief Minister and co-coordinator Edappadi K. Palaniswami on the Secretariat on Tuesday morning to evaluation the state of affairs arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, he was closeted with a number of senior office-bearers of the celebration.
The improvement comes a day after he indulged in an open duel with Mr. Palaniswami on the celebration government committee assembly on who could be the AIADMK’s Chief Ministerial candidate for the 2021 elections.
Those who met the Deputy Chief Minister at his residence on Greenways Road for about an hour, have been the celebration’s deputy coordinators K.P. Munusamy and R. Vaithilingam and former Member of Parliament P.H. Manoj Pandian.
Emerging from the day’s assembly, Mr Vaithilingam informed the media that his participation within the assembly was in his private capability. He denied that this had had any political significance.
To a question, the deputy coordinator, who was a part of the Palaniswami camp on the time of the cut up within the AIADMK in February 2017, replied: “I would do my mite so that the party is strong enough to retain power [during the forthcoming Assembly polls]. I will be supportive to the coordinator [Mr. Panneerselvam] and the co-coordinator [Mr. Palaniswami].” He emphatically stated “no” to a query on whether or not the confusion over the CM candidate would trigger the autumn of the federal government.
Mr Munusamy informed The Hindu that the assembly pertained to “the party work,” the time period of which he declined to elaborate on. Separately, after garlanding the statue of former Chennai Mayor N. Sivaraj in north Chennai, Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar, accompanied by his cupboard colleagues Okay. Pandiarajan, V. Saroja and P. Benjamin, stated members of the chief committee expressed their views in a “democratic manner,” which was “healthy.” He added that the Opposition, which had anticipated that the assembly would result in a disaster for the celebration, must be “feeling disappointed now.”
As for the impression of the anticipated early return of former interim basic secretary of the celebration V.Okay. Sasikala, on the celebration, the Minister termed it as an “unnecessary subject.”

On Monday, members of the AIADMK government committee held a marathon dialogue on two points – the celebration’s Chief Minister candidate for the forthcoming Assembly polls and the formation of an 11-member steering committee. The camp of the celebration coordinator — Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam was stated to have been largely outnumbered by the camp of the co-coordinator — Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on the government committee.
