Puthenveli Sasidharan, common as actor ‘Mela’ Reghu, died in Kochi on Tuesday.
He was 60. A resident of Cherthala, Mr. Reghu had collapsed at his dwelling on April 16 following a stroke. He was admitted in an intensive care unit of a non-public hospital right here. The actor’s situation worsened on Tuesday morning.

A circus clown by career, Mr. Reghu entered the tinsel city on account of his shortness of peak within the film ‘Mela’ directed by famend filmmaker K. G. George in 1980. Actor Sreenivasan, who performed a key function within the film, discovered the actor in him after watching his efficiency as a clown in a present staged by the well-known Bharat Circus.
Mr. Reghu performed the lead character of Govindankutty together with actor Mammootty in ‘Mela’, which introduced the tragic lives of female and male circus artists’ on the large display. It was Mr. George who prompt that Puthenveli Sasidharan change his identify to Reghu. The success of the film earned him the epithet ‘Mela’ Reghu.
He had the possibility to work in veteran actor Kamal Haasan’s blockbuster movie ‘Apoorva Sahodarangal’ launched in 1989. ‘Drishyam 2’ starring actor Mohanlal and directed by Jeethu Joseph was his final film.
Despite making a dream entry in Mollywood, the actor in him couldn’t bag many memorable roles. He later switched to theatre and had the chance to play a personality in ‘Innalakalile Aakasham’ penned by Francis T Mavelikkara and directed by Pramod Payyannoor. Mr. Reghu later returned to the world of circus after his efforts to revive the movie profession failed.
