Alappuzha to host ‘Lokame Tharavadu’

Sandwiched between the Arabian Sea and Vembanad Lake, the port city of Alappuzha is in for a beehive of exercise with all of it set to play host to a three-month-long vibrant show of latest artwork throughout a number of venues.

‘Lokame Tharavadu’ (The world is one household), an artwork exhibition organised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation and curated by famend artist and curator Bose Krishnamachari, can be held in Alappuzha and Ernakulam from March 10 to May 31.

Initiated by the State authorities, the exhibition will characteristic the artworks of 267 malayali artists from India and overseas, making it one of many largest artwork exhibitions ever to contain Malayali artists on a worldwide scale.

“Most artists, including me, are confined to homes for the past several months. This inspired many of us to profoundly think about our home, surroundings, and the world. These poignant thoughts led to the creation of the exhibition ‘Lokame Tharavadu’,” Mr. Krishnamachari mentioned in an announcement.

Bounceback from pandemic

He mentioned that related to varied different sectors, the Malayali artist group additionally suffered quite a bit owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. “The exhibition is an effort in collaboration with the State government to recover from the setbacks faced by the artist community,” Mr. Krishnamachari mentioned.

Of the 267 Malayali artists invited to the exhibition, 14 are actively practising artwork within the Netherlands, France, United States of America, Australia, Turkey, Germany, England, Oman, Kuwait, the U.A.E and so forth. Further, 81 artists are working and residing in numerous elements of India.

‘Lokame Tharavadu’ can be held throughout six venues within the two districts. In Alappuzha, the exhibition can be held throughout 5 venues: Kerala State Coir Corporation, New Model Society Building, Port Museum, William Goodcare and Sons Pvt. Ltd., and The Alleppey Company, thus making the gala a mix of artwork, tradition, and heritage. Besides, the exhibition will happen at Durbar Hall Art Gallery, Ernakulam.

Parallel to the exhibition, a collection of cultural programmes, conferences, and artist talks involving distinguished performers, musicians, writers, and teachers from Kerala and out of doors are deliberate. The tutorial programmes, talks, and workshops can be curated by curator and author Premjish Achari.
