Bharat Bandh: Spate of agitations in Central Tamil Nadu

TIRUCHI: The Bharat Bandh known as by farmers unions and supported by the Opposition events on Tuesday in opposition to the three new farm legal guidelines witnessed a slew of protests in the shape of highway rokos and demonstrations by the Left events, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Congress and members of farmers organisations throughout the central area.

However, merchants in some locations in Ariyalur district in addition to in Pudukottai district downed shutters to increase solidarity with the farmers who’ve been staging a protest in New Delhi in opposition to the brand new farm legal guidelines.
In Tiruchi district, the highway rokos had been reported at eight locations to date together with Uppiliapuram, Thuraiyur, Lalgudi, Tiruverambur, Thuvarankurichi, Manachanallur and Somarasampet resulting in the arrest of over 400 members belonging to the 2 Left events and the DMK.

Among these arrested included the DMK Alangudi MLA Siva Meiyyanathan and DMK Thirumayam MLA S. Regupathy.
In Ariyalur district, 143 cadre of the 2 Left events had been arrested at Jayamkondam and Andimadam. Farmers belonging to the Vivasaya Sangangalin Kootamaippu staged an illustration in Ariyalur Town expressing solidarity with the farmers staging the protest in New Delhi. Police sources stated some retailers in Jayamkondam, Andimadam and Meensuriti had been closed.
The highway roko on the new bus stand in Perambalur Town led to the arrest of over 100 members of the Left events and the DMK. An indication was organised by the Tamil Nadu Vivasaya Thozhilalar Sangam in Kunnam in Perambalur district. Cadre of Opposition events staged a protest and resorted highway blockades in Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts.
Road roko in Nagapattinam
About 200 members of Labour Progressive Federation assembled in entrance of the Mayiladuthurai Bus Stand by midday for staging a highway roko. Some retailers in the bus stand space and environment in the city had been closed as a bit of merchants feared hassle from protesters. However, no commerce organisation had known as for closure of retailers, sources stated.
On their half, advocates supportive of BJP reached out to the merchants with an enchantment to maintain the retailers open.
In Nagapattinam city and environment, there was partial response from merchants to the Bharat Bandh name. At 5 to 6 locations, protests had been held on the roadside by members of commerce unions affiliated to Communist events. Road blockade at Sikkal by protesters was cleared instantly, sources stated.
