An MLA of the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh alleged on Wednesday that the district police chief of Pratapgarh, an IPS officer, assaulted him and tore his garments when he was within the district Justice of the Peace’s workplace to boost the difficulty of lacking names within the voters’ checklist for the upcoming panchayat elections.
Abhay Kumar alias Dhiraj Ojha made the allegations in a dramatic vogue, a video of which was extensively circulated on social media. The footage exhibits the MLA strolling out of the DM’s workplace in Pratapgarh in a white vest, holding his ‘torn’ kurta in his palms. The MLA then lies flat on the bottom together with his palms stretched out and accuses the SP, Akash Tomar, of assaulting him. “Pratapgarh SP beat me a lot. I did not do anything wrong,” the MLA stated in Hindi.
“Yeh bahut khatarnaak aadmi agaya hai. Maar dalega humko (He is a dangerous man. He will get me killed),” stated the legislator from Raniganj.
In one other video, the MLA could be seen moving into an argument with the SP as he walks out of the workplace.
However, no footage emerged to corroborate the MLA’s allegations.
In a press release issued later, the Pratapgarh SP stated the MLA was making false allegations as he had requested him to cease misbehaving on the DM’s workplace.
He stated when the MLA sat on a dharna towards the DM over discrepancies within the voters’ checklist, he requested the MLA to cease misbehaving. “The DM of Pratapgarh was there with me the entire time. The police have nothing to do with the incident,” the SP stated.
Talking to a information channel, Mr. Ojha stated he had been struggling for the final three months to get the lacking names again into the voters’ checklist. He stated he was speaking to the DM when the SP intervened and threatened to shoot him.
