Chennai to get two more rain gauges as Met dept. upgrades network

In its effort to increase and improve its climate commentary network in Chennai, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) will inaugurate two more computerized rain gauges (ARGs) subsequent week.
The division is approaching institutions, significantly academic establishments, that would supply house for satisfactory publicity to the sensors within the tools.
The new ARGs have been put in at YMCA College of Physical Education, Nandanam, and Goodwill Primary School, Villivakkam, and can be put to use in a few days.

Work is nearing completion on the set up of town’s second radar on the premises of the National Institute of Ocean Technology in Pallikaranai.
The Doppler climate radar on Rajaji Salai can be upgraded, apart from the prevailing network of AWS and ARGs being maintained, Mr. Balachandran added.
Rain to proceed
The IMD officers mentioned thunderstorm with mild to reasonable rain would proceed in remoted locations over the State and Puducherry until Monday owing to the presence of westerly trough. Dry climate would return on Tuesday. During the 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. Saturday, Kothagiri and Coonoor within the Nilgiris acquired 9 cm and seven cm rain respectively. Among the opposite locations that recorded a big quantity of rain have been Tamaraipakkam and Gummidipoondi with 2 cm every and Ambattur 1 cm.
