Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reiterated that the drawing of water from the frequent reservoirs on the Krishna river by Telangana allegedly with out acquiring the required clearances from the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) warranted his (the PM’s) intervention, lest Andhra Pradesh would endure a grave injustice .
The Chief Minister acknowledged that the Telangana authorities was drawing water from Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar (NSP) and Pulichintala initiatives for hydel energy era in blatant violation of the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act, 2014 and the established protocol which mandates that the irrigation necessities are to be met first and solely then water may be drawn for energy era and consuming water functions.
Despite repeated complaints to the Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS), and the KRMB, whereby it was requested to cease Telangana from setting up unauthorised initiatives and from drawing water with out the appraisal of DPRs by the KRMB, scrutiny by the Central Water Commission and approvals of the Apex Council, no efficient steps have been taken to date to defend the official rights of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy identified.
He appealed to the Prime Minister to intervene and direct the MoJS and the Telangana authorities to take motion that might allow Andhra Pradesh to utilise its rightful share of water from the initiatives on the Krishna River.
