CM writes to President on Rajiv case convicts

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday wrote to President Ram Nath Kovind, requesting him to settle for the State authorities’s advice in September 2018 and go orders to remit the life sentences of all of the seven convicts within the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
Mr. Stalin mentioned the convicts — S. Nalini, Murugan, Santhan, A.G. Perarivalan, Jayakumar, Robert Payas and P. Ravichandran — needs to be launched instantly.
DMK MP T.R. Baalu handed over the letter to the President’s Office on Thursday. In the letter, copies of which have been launched by the federal government to the media, Mr. Stalin identified that the convicts had spent three a long time in jail.
“These seven persons have already suffered untold hardship and agony in the past three decades and have paid a heavy price. There has already been an inordinate delay in the consideration of their pleas for remission,” he mentioned.
He recalled that Nalini’s unique dying sentence was commuted beneath Article 161 of the Constitution, whereas the Supreme Court commuted the dying sentence of different three convicts to that of life imprisonment.
