Collector asks returning officers to go by rule book

District Collector V. Vinay Chand referred to as upon returning officers to diligently discharge their duties within the upcoming panchayat elections within the district.
Addressing the ROs of Anakapalle Division at a coaching programme right here on Thursday, the Collector stated that ROs performed a key function in elections and suggested them to fastidiously examine the handbook on tips issued by the Election Commission. The tips needs to be strictly adopted throughout all phases of the election course of, proper from submitting of nominations to scrutiny and withdrawal, he stated.
“There should be transparency in the acceptance or rejection of nomination. It should be ensured that there are no errors in the acceptance of nominations. If the nominations are rejected for any reason, the same should be mentioned clearly. The steps in the preparation of the ballot paper should be followed meticulously,” he stated.
Those contesting for the submit of sarpanch/ward member ought to have accomplished 21 years of age and be a registered voter of the village/ward involved. Sarpanch contestants from the General class ought to pay a safety deposit of ₹3,000; SC/ST/BC candidates ought to pay ₹1,500. Those contesting for Ward Member from General class ought to pay ₹1,000 and reserved candidates ₹500. Nominations needs to be accepted solely after verifying all of the eligibility standards.
