College college students, alumni give COVID-19 victims a dignified farewell

Amid tales of conmen cashing in on the distress and tragedy caused by the pandemic, there are an equal variety of situations of individuals reaching out to assist strangers. Their acts of kindness and empathy shine gentle in these darkish instances.

Seven college students and alumni of St. Joseph’s College in Bengaluru have taken it upon themselves to give a dignified farewell to victims of COVID-19. Over the final month and a half, they’ve buried greater than 170 individuals on the Christian Cemetery.

S. Arun Kumar, a closing 12 months undergraduate scholar of the faculty stated that he and his pals had been concerned in outreach programmes since March 2020, together with distributing foodgrains. “But we learnt that the challenge during the second wave was families struggling to give their deceased loved ones a dignified farewell. So we decided to rise to the occasion and work at cemeteries,” he stated.

In the mornings they assist distribute meals and masks. “In the afternoons and evenings, we bury the bodies. It has been extremely depressing to see dead bodies of people in their 20s and 30s,” he stated.

Nelson, an alumnus of the faculty who’s a a part of the group, stated, “Every time I bury a person, a part of me dies.” The others pals concerned within the initiative are Tejhashwin, Yashwanth J., Kevin Lloyd, Rohit Rajeev, and Jerry Jockin.
