Custodial demise: 7 excise officers chargesheeted

Seven officers of the Excise (*7*) and Anti Narcotics Squad, Thrissur, have been charge-sheeted by the CBI within the custodial demise case of Ranjith Kumar of Tirur, Malappuram.
CBI Dy.SP T.P. Anantha Krishnan filed the chargesheet within the case earlier than the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Ernakulam, on Monday.
Excise Preventive Officers Abdul Jabbar and V.A. Ummer and Excise Civil Officers K.U. Mahesh and Smibin have been charged with committing homicide, wrongful confinement and inflicting damage. Excise Preventive Officer Anup Kumar and Excise Civil Officers Nidhin K. Madavan and M. O. Benny have been chargesheeted for offences of public servant framing incorrect paperwork with the intent to trigger damage, framing paperwork with the intent to avoid wasting individual from punishment, voluntarily inflicting damage to extract confession, and wrongful restraint, in accordance with a CBI communication.
2 kg of ganja
The CBI case is that the accused took Ranjith Kumar into unlawful custody on October 1, 2019 from Guruvayur for possession of two kilograms of ganja. Ranjith Kumar, who was taken to a godown of a toddy store at Pavaratty and brutally assaulted, died within the night.
