The State authorities has ordered a departmental inquiry into the custodial demise of a suspect, D. Ajay (30), in Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) police station within the metropolis.
Ajay, who was an eleventh accused in liquor smuggling racket, was dropped at the station by the SEB personnel on Thursday. He allegedly collapsed throughout questioning and died in a non-public hospital later.
According to sources, the SEB personnel busted an inter-State liquor smuggling racket final month. They seized about 2,000 liquor bottles from an APSRTC cargo car and registered a case.

Police Commissioner B. Srinivasulu stated the Krishnalanka police, who registered the custodial demise case (underneath Sec. 176 CrPc), would examine who and at what time the deceased was dropped at the station.
