DRDO chief flags off Varunastra

Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO, G. Satheesh Reddy, flagged off the primary Varunastra, the heavy weight torpedo, which was delivered to the Indian Navy, at a ceremony held at BDL, Visakhapatnam unit, right here on Saturday.
Varunastra has been designed and developed by NSTL, Visakhapatnam. BDL, being the manufacturing company, is manufacturing Varunastra at its Visakhapatnam unit for the Indian Navy. This product can also be being provided for export.
BDL is related to the DRDO for its numerous missile programmes. BDL can also be the manufacturing company for Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM), for which, trials had been performed efficiently lately.
BDL can also be the manufacturing company for Astra Air- to- Air Missile System and has commenced manufacturing of those missiles.
The missile system shall be totally indigenous and has been developed by the DRDO for the Indian Air Force. Dr. Satheesh Reddy appreciated the synergy between all stakeholders, particularly the design company NSTL and the manufacturing company BDL, in completion of the manufacture of the primary Varunastra.
He mentioned that BDL ought to gear up for brand spanking new programmes of ALWT and EHWT.
Commodore Siddharth Mishra, CMD, BDL, mentioned that BDL is poised to tackle the manufacture of futuristic weapon techniques. Towards this the BDL crew is dedicated to hone new abilities and create the mandatory infrastructure.
Dr. Sateesh additionally laid the inspiration stone for establishing of state-of-the-art Central Stores at BDL, Visakhapatnam Unit.
