The Chief Minister broadcasts money incentive to the athletes; 7 sportspersons have already certified
Five more sportspersons from Tamil Nadu have certified for the Tokyo Olympics, along with the seven who’ve already certified.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday introduced an incentive of ₹5 lakh to every of the 5 athletes.
Revathi Veeramani, Subha Venkatesan and S. Dhanalakshmi (4 x 400 m blended relay) and Arokia Rajiv and Naganathan Pandi (4 x 400 m relay) are a part of the 26-member Indian athletics staff introduced on Monday. Ms. Revathi is working as industrial clerk-cum-ticket collector within the Madurai Division of Southern Railway. General Manager of Southern Railway John Thomas mentioned, “I share my pride in and admiration for Ms. Revathi’s achievement of figuring in the Indian contingent. I extend my heartfelt wishes to her for bringing laurels to the nation.”
“For the first time, five athletes from Tamil Nadu have qualified for the Olympics,” Tamil Nadu Athletic Association secretary and former worldwide athlete C. Latha mentioned.
The authorities earlier handed over a money incentive of ₹5 lakh every to the seven who certified for the Olympics. They are sailors Nethra Kumanan, Varun A. Thakkar and K.C. Ganapathy, paddlers G. Sathiyan and A. Sharath Kamal, fencer C.A. Bhavani Devi and Paralympic high-jumper T. Mariyappan.
Acknowledging the steps taken by the State to advertise sports activities among the many youth, Ms. Latha flagged the problem of entry charges for athletes to make use of the sports activities amenities. “In addition to the fees, the GST is collected. The government could look into this issue, which is affecting several athletes,” she mentioned.
