Five women of same family killed as van hits tree in Chhattisgarh

Five women of the same family have been killed and 6 others injured when the van they have been travelling in rammed right into a tree in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district, police stated on Sunday.
The victims, who hailed from Malgaon village, have been getting back from Khatti Khorpa village in neighbouring Raipur district after attending the post-death rituals of their relative.
“The accident occurred around 11 pm on Saturday near Kopra village under Panduka police station area when the driver apparently lost his control over the van and it crashed into the tree,” stated Sukhnandan Rathore, Gariaband Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP).
The women, recognized as Bagauti Nishad, Kala Bai, Parwat Bai, Kej Bai and Tej Bai, died on the spot, he stated. Six others, together with three women, a 15-year-old boy, and the driving force of the van suffered severe accidents whereas one other occupant, a woman, escaped unharmed, he stated.
The injured have been shifted to a hospital in Rajim from the place they have been referred to Raipur for additional therapy, he stated.
A case has been registered.
