Govt. interference in religious bodies undesirable: PAC chief

Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Payyavula Keshav said on Tuesday that the TTD shouldn’t be introduced below the jurisdiction of the committee, and as a substitute be allowed to operate as an unbiased establishment.
Addressing the media, Mr. Keshav stated that he, in the capability of PAC Chairman, differed with the reported transfer to deliver the hill temple below the committee’s fold, and stated that he would converse to the members of the TTD Trust Board and, if required, share his opinion with the Governor.
In a terse remark, he stated the federal government’s interference in the functioning of religious bodies was completely undesirable.
“Further, how far is it fair to gain control or authority over the functioning of religious institutions on the pretext of rectifying the anomalies in the system?” he questioned.
If the federal government actually desired to oversee the religious bodies, it ought to deliver tips for his or her higher functioning, he stated.
Mr. Keshav stated there have been reviews that the TTD board had resolved to deliver the temple below the purview of the PAC.
“For this, the resolution should first be sent to the Governor who, in turn, shall give his approval to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). Only then the proposal will become a reality,” he stated.
