Officials of South Central Railway (SCR) celebrated the ‘International Level Crossing Awareness Day’ on Thursday. They carried out consciousness programmes for the general public at degree crossing gates.
Speaking on the event, railway officers stated authorities have taken up the operation to take away the manned degree crossings in a phased method by offering Limited Height Subways (LHS), Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) within the zone.
As many as 81 manned degree crossings have been eliminated by setting up LHS, ROB and RUBs with the cooperation of the State governments, and steps are being taken to take away the remaining degree crossings, the railway authorities stated.
South Central Railway General Manager Gajanan Mallya appealed to highway customers to apply security measures on the degree crossings. He requested drivers to cease, look in each instructions of the extent crossing (railway gates) and solely then cross the gates.
“Vehicle drivers should observe the alarm, signal light and caution boards arranged at the gates to prevent mishaps,” Mr. Mallya stated.
Officers and workers on the gates organised consciousness programmes at varied degree crossings within the zone for the general public in reference to ‘International Level Crossing Day’ on Thursday.
“Most of the accidents occur due to human negligence at level crossings. We appeal to the road users not to cross the tracks when the gate is closed and observe when they approach the level crossing before passing the gate,” stated an officer.
