July 7 deadline to vaccinate college students and staff

Time body could be prolonged by 2 or 3 days: Dy. CM to VCs
Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education C.N. Ashwath Narayan has requested Vice-Chancellors (VCs) of all the schools to make sure that students above 18 are vaccinated by July 7.
In a press launch, he mentioned that if required the date could be prolonged by two or three days.
Students above 18 years are being vaccinated as a precedence to facilitate resuming of bodily courses.
The date of opening of offline courses, the Higher Education division mentioned, shall be depending on the success of this vaccination drive. However, students won’t be compelled to take the vaccine.
Data offered by the Higher Education Department confirmed that as on Wednesday, 2.58 lakh college students and staff have been vaccinated in drives carried out throughout campuses. Of these, 2.26 lakh have been students, 18,976 have been instructing staff, and 12,646 non-teaching staff.
The Health and Family Welfare Department has estimated that 20 lakh staff and students have to be vaccinated. However, officers mentioned that many might have obtained their dose from neighbourhood vaccination drives or hospitals. “We are yet to collate the data of teachers and students who have been vaccinated outside of this drive,” an official within the division identified.
Meanwhile, relating to studies of vaccine scarcity, Health and Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar mentioned with SSLC examination scheduled and reopening of courses within the offing, eligible students can be given precedence. “I will discuss the matter with the Union Minister during my Delhi visit on Monday,” he mentioned.
