Former Chief Minister and JD(S) chief H.D. Kumaraswamy stated that the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill, 2020, is detrimental to the farming neighborhood and it must be seen from that perspective.
“It is also important to think of the welfare of farmers who nurture go maata. Who will stand by the farmer when taking care of a cow becomes a burden on him?” requested Mr. Kumaraswamy.
He sought to understand how a farmer is to shoulder the monetary burden when cattle fall sick or are aged when he/she is just not allowed to promote it. He identified that taking good care of a male calf can also be a monetary burden on farmers. The new regulation, he stated, will make such cattle a monetary burden a poor farmer can’t bear. Given the robust penal provisions within the new regulation, farmers will even undergo at the palms of the police, he stated. “How is it fair to punish a poor farmer in the garb of protecting cows?” he requested within the launch.
