Man damages VVPAT, polling suspended
Tension prevailed at a sales space within the Aranthangi constituency in Pudukottai district after a 45-year-old man, in an inebriated situation, allegedly broken a VVPAT unit, resulting in the suspension of polling for a while.
The accused, recognized as Anandan, was arrested by the Aranthangi police. Police sources mentioned the incident occurred round 3 p.m. at a sales space in Alangudi village.
As Anandan was inflicting nuisance, a constable deployed on the sales space suggested him to return after a while. But he stored wandering near the polling station, all of the sudden rushed into the sales space and allegedly hit the VVPAT unit with an ‘aruval’, inflicting injury to the tools.
He was caught and brought to the Aranthangi police station for inquiry.
Official sources mentioned the management unit of the EVM, nevertheless, remained intact. Polling recommenced after 20 minutes.
