New Punjab Congress president’s show of strength includes Ministers, ex-party chief.
Close to 60 party MLAs on Wednesday gathered at the residence of newly appointed Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu in Amritsar even as Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was firm not to meet him unless he publicly apologies.
Mr. Sidhu along with the legislators went to the Golden Temple and also visited the Durgiana temple and the Ram Tirath Sthal. A close aide of Mr. Sidhu said 62 of the 80 MLAs were in Amritsar,
Prominent among those who were present included Ministers Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Charanjit Singh Channi, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria and former State party president Sunil Jakhar.
Blessings of the almighty
Mr. Jakhar said all the MLAs had gathered to seek the blessings of the almighty. “In the house of lord, no one can afford to make a show of strength or any kind of politics. We were all there to seek blessings so that everyone could work towards the betterment of Punjab,” he said.
After Mr. Sidhu, a detractor of Capt. Amarinder, was elevated as party’s chief, the Chief Minister had made it clear that he would not meet him unless he publicly apologises for his derogatory social media attacks against him.
