In a bid to spice up the sale and use of electrical vehicles within the State, the Tamil Nadu authorities on Monday exempted battery-operated vehicles from the fee of motorcar tax till the tip of 2022, according to the Electric Vehicle Policy launched final yr.
The authorities has determined to grant 100% tax exemption for all battery-operated vehicles (electrical vehicles) as transport and non-transport vehicles as much as December 31, 2022, a notification issued on this regard said.
Since March 2008, a concessional charge of fifty% of the lifetime tax for the battery-operated motorbike was being levied beneath the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1974.
From November 2008, new battery-operated non-transport vehicles, too, got concession in tax.
The Tamil Nadu authorities’s resolution to grant 100% tax exemption to all battery-operated vehicles till December 31, 2022, adopted a proposal from the Transport Commissioner made in November 2019.
