Odisha to handover unused govt. properties to women SHGs

In a major step in the direction of empowering women-folk in villages, the Odisha authorities introduced to handover all unused authorities properties in panchayats to women self-help teams (SHGs) federated below Mission Shakti programme.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed district collectors to full the method of handing over of properties inside subsequent two months. “There are many government properties including government building, shopping complex and community ponds lying unutilised in panchayats, blocks and districts. If the properties are given to women, they will use it for social and economic upliftment of the area,” stated Mr. Patnaik.
“It would benefit general public as well as women groups would generate income,” he remarked, including, “The empowerment of women has always been priority of my government. Mission Shakti has become instrumental of change. This step would help the silent revolution of women in the State.”
Mr. Patnaik’s authorities has carved out a separate division for Mission Shakti, which is predicted to give energy to 70 lakh women related to self-help teams below the programme.
According to the federal government, Mission Shakti was launched within the yr 2001 with the target of organising women into SHGs for holistic empowerment and focused livelihood actions. Currently, there are six lakh SHGs in Odisha below Mission Shakti having 70 lakh members.
Last yr, the State authorities had roped in women for offering cooked meals to migrant labourers who had been accommodated in COVID-19 care centres following the pandemic.
