Congress MLA T. Jayaprakash Reddy, who created a flutter on Saturday by announcing his decision to stay away from the party, said that his future in the Congress can be decided only after he gets a hearing from AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
“I have respect for the Gandhi family in general and both the leaders in particular, and I hope to get some time from them to explain my predicament,” Mr. Reddy said on Sunday. He is willing to wait for 15 days before taking the final decision on leaving the party.
“I want to explain to them the circumstances and the agony in which I made the decision. Only they will understand the root cause of the present situation,” a mellowed Mr. Reddy said. Nalgonda MP and former PCC Chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy who held discussions with him on Saturday is trying to get an appointment.
Speaking to reporters here, he argued that his opposition was not to the party but the present situation that will damage its prospects. “Congress is very strong and all it needs is a good strategy and some direction where every leader is taken along,” he said.
Stating that he has no animosity towards PCC president Revanth Reddy, he said that all he opposed was the way he functioned which is not good for a historic party like the Congress. “Political decency for which the party is known for cannot be compromised. Difference of opinion is not enmity,” he argued.
Commenting on Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s visit to Mumbai, he said that Mr. Rao’s efforts to break the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and float a Third Front with its constituents will not fructify.
“KCR is trying to wipe off his pro-BJP image with such meetings,” he said, adding that only West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin were sincerely fighting against the BJP policies.
