Over ₹9 lakh seized in DVAC raids at checkposts

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) performed raids in 16 Regional Transport Office (RTO) checkposts and one police checkpost in the border districts of Tamil Nadu on Saturday. Close to ₹9.18 lakh of unaccounted-for cash was seized.

In Theni, at the RTO checkpost close to the Palani Chettipatti authorities bus depot, the police discovered ₹5,500 in unaccounted-for money. V&AC DSP Satyaseelan, Inspector Geetha and others questioned motorized vehicle inspector Rajasekar and different employees members.
In the same search at the Puliyarai checkpost in Tenkasi district, the V&AC police seized ₹48,000. The workforce had arrived from Tirunelveli and held inquiries at the checkpost close to Shencottah.
“The complaint is that some corrupt officials at the checkposts allow vehicles that violate the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act, including overloading, to go after taking a bribe. The unaccounted-for cash that we seized was for one day. We will be conducting such raids regularly,” mentioned a DVAC officer.
Officials mentioned steps could be taken to file circumstances below the Prevention of Corruption Act towards the officers. Meanwhile, DVAC officers performed a shock test in Virudhunagar and seized unaccounted-for cash to the tune of ₹25 lakh and gold jewelry of as much as 117 sovereigns from two motorized vehicle inspectors.
The DVAC and Inspection Cell Officers intercepted the autos of two MVIs – Kalaiselvi, MVI, Grade-I, RTO Virudhunagar and Shanmuga Ananth, MVI, Grade-I, RTO Madurai North – on Saturday.
When the officers checked the automobile of Ms. Kalaiselvi, they discovered ₹24 lakh and 117 sovereigns. They discovered ₹1.43 lakh from Shanmuga Ananth’s automobile. Further investigation is on.
