Mr. Dujarric was responding to a query on the farmers’ protest in India.
Reacting to feedback by international leaders, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava on December 2 stated, “We have seen some ill-informed comments relating to farmers in India. Such comments are unwarranted, especially when pertaining to the internal affairs of a democratic country.”
In a terse message, the Ministry additional added that “it is also best that diplomatic conversations are not misrepresented for political purposes.”
On December 4, India summoned Canadian High Commissioner and informed him that the feedback made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and others in his Cabinet on the farmers’ protest constituted an “unacceptable interference” within the nation’s inner affairs and these actions, if continued, will have a “seriously damaging” influence on bilateral ties.
Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and different States have been protesting for the final 9 days on the borders of Delhi towards three farm legal guidelines. Dubbing these legal guidelines as “anti-farmer”, the protesting farmers allege that the newly enacted legislations would pave the best way for dismantling of the minimal help value system, leaving them on the “mercy” of huge companies.
