Six-time world champion Mary Kom was among the many boxers on board the plane.
A SpiceJet aircraft ferrying ace pugilist Mary Kom and 30 different members of an Indian boxing contingent from Delhi was pressured to hover for round 45 minutes and declared a fuel emergency before it landed safely on the Dubai airport on Saturday morning, sources mentioned.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is investigating the whole incident, they mentioned.
The sources mentioned that as a consequence of COVID-19 restrictions, SpiceJet had obtained particular permission from the U.A.E authorities to carry these boxers to Dubai for Asian Boxing Championship 2021 that might be held between May 24 and June 1.
However, the aircraft needed to wait in the U.A.E airspace for round 45 minutes as a consequence of some confusion on the Dubai airport’s Air Traffic Control on whether or not the plane may be allowed to land or not and a fuel emergency was declared, they mentioned.
The U.A.E, since April 25, has barred all travellers from India — besides U.A.E nationals, diplomatic passport holders and official delegation letter holders — as a result of second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the nation.
The flight SG142 carrying 31 boxers and 6 crew members departed from the Delhi airport at round 2.20 a.m. (Indian time) and landed on the Dubai airport at round 6.20 a.m. (Indian time) on Saturday morning.

On this matter, SpiceJet spokesperson mentioned in an announcement: “An Indian boxing contingent travelled on a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Dubai today. The aircraft has reached Dubai safely and all passengers have cleared the immigration. The flight and passengers carried proper documentation.”
“It was a regular passenger flight under the air bubble agreement and the same aircraft is bringing passengers to India from Dubai on its return leg.” All scheduled worldwide passenger flights have been suspended in India since March 23 final 12 months. However, particular worldwide flights have been working below Vande Bharat Mission since May 2020 and below air bubble association fashioned with round 27 international locations since July final 12 months.
