Ropeways, cable vehicles and innovative mobility solutions like funicular railways have been brought under the ambit of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari mentioned on Thursday.
The transfer will give an enormous fillip to infrastructure constructing in distant, inaccessible areas and hilly terrains of the nation, the Road Transport, Highways and MSMEs Minister Gakdari informed PTI.
“Ropeway, cable car, funicular railway, public transport on electricity etc have come under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This will give a big impetus to infrastructure building in inaccessible terrains,” the Minister mentioned.
Apart from final mile connectivity for distant places, it would scale back congestions on mainstream roads, the Minister mentioned.
The transfer will end in organising of world-class ropeways within the nation with emphasis on high quality and security.
It may also be utilised for transportation of freight and items at aggressive costs, he added.
As per the notification amending the allocation of the enterprise guidelines issued by the Cabinet Secretariat on this regard “Coordination, research, standards and policy matters in respect of ropeways and other innovative/alternative mobility solutions” will come under the ambit of Road, Transport and Highways Ministry.
