Solatium for kin of 21 fishermen missing during (*21*) Tauktae

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday introduced solatium of ₹20 lakh to the households of every of the 21 fishermen reported missing within the Arabian Sea during (*21*) Tauktae.
The fishermen from Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai and Kanniyakumari districts went missing in two incidents during (*21*) Tauktae final month, and search and rescue operations, involving the Coast Guard, couldn’t find them.
Considering the poor monetary situation of the households of these fishermen, the Chief Minister sanctioned ₹4.2 crore to be paid as solatium, an official launch mentioned.
Following an alert by the India Meteorological Department on May 13 about (*21*) Tauktae, 246 boats within the Arabian Sea returned to security. There have been studies of two incidents whereby 21 fishermen went missing.
A ship from Nagapattinam drowned close to Lakshadweep and 9 fishermen on board went missing. During the search and rescue operation that adopted, Coast Guard ship ICGS Vikram and two helicopters have been concerned. Another fishing boat with 23 fishermen that undertook the search too couldn’t find the missing fishermen.
In one other incident, a ship from Kozhikode in Kerala left the Beypore fishing harbour on May 5 and went missing during the cyclone. Of the 16 fishermen on board, 12 have been from Kanniyakumari district.
The Coast Guard undertook a search to find the missing fishermen. Despite steady efforts involving the Coast Guard’s ship and plane, the missing fishermen couldn’t be situated.
Mr. Stalin had written to Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh urging to find the missing fishermen in each incidents.
