The Supreme Court agreed to hear on April 20 itself the plea of the Uttar Pradesh authorities against the Allahabad High Court order directing it to impose strict restrictions until April 26 in five cities amid a surge in COVID-19 circumstances.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta talked about the matter for pressing itemizing earlier than a Bench headed by Chief Justice S.A. Bobde.
Mr. Mehta, whereas referring to the High Court’s order handed on April 19, stated that “a virtual lockdown is declared by a judicial order for a week”.
He requested the Bench to take up the matter in the course of the day saying the matter relates to five large cities of the State.
“Ok,” the Bench stated.
The High Court had directed the Uttar Pradesh authorities to impose strict restrictions together with closing of malls, procuring complexes and eating places until April 26 in five cities, however stopped in need of calling it a “complete lockdown”.
Allahabad, Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur Nagar and Gorakhpur are the cities in which the High Court has directed curbs.
The High Court had stated these curbs are “nowhere close to a complete lockdown”.
