Tamil Nadu Assembly elections | A silent yearning for an alternative pressure?
[ad_1]
Tamil Nadu politics has sometimes seen a bipolar contest between two main alliances: the DMK-led and AIADMK-led formulations. Since the final Assembly ballot in 2016, there was a silent voice for a 3rd alternative, particularly after the passing away of each the political stalwarts of the State, M. Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa.
During the 2021 Assembly election, the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) and Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) headed by T.T.V. Dhinakaran, Kamal Haasan and Seeman, respectively, secured near 11% of the whole votes polled within the State. Over half the surveyed voters (55%) agreed with the thought of a political alternative to the 2 dominant fronts (23% totally and 32% considerably).
However, one-third of the voters felt there was no want of a 3rd pressure. Interestingly, voters who had voted for the NTK overwhelmingly supported the thought of a 3rd alternative(56% totally and 18% considerably). Six of each 10 of the supporters of AMMK+ and MNM+ additionally did so. It stays to be seen whether or not this sentiment is barely a common want for a wider pool of selections or an implicit warning concerning the agency bipolarity inside which the Tamil Nadu politics operates.
