Tension broke out at Nagarjunasagar Project (NSP) canal bund area in Division 20 of the Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) limits on Friday when a bunch of BJP cadres tried to stall a demolition drive by the Revenue employees to take away what the latter known as “illegal structures” on the Nagarjunasagar Project lands.
A bunch of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists led by the BJP Kisan Morcha State president K Sridhar Reddy together with some aggrieved native dwellers allegedly tried to dam a JCB machine from finishing up the demolition drive at the location.
As gentle pressure gripped the area, the police whisked the protesters away to the three city police station and allow them to off later.
In an announcement, Mr Sridhar Reddy alleged that the demolition drive was arbitrary and uncalled for because it entailed rendering a number of poor households of the locality homeless in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The aggrieved native dwellers had earlier approached the statutory our bodies together with the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) looking for regularisation of their homes constructed on NSP lands.
The officers involved didn’t heed to the requests of the poor households to spare roof over their heads, he alleged, reiterating his cost {that a} constructing constructed by a personal instructional establishment on the Nagarjunasagar Project lands was regularised previously.
“This is nothing but double standards,” Mr Reddy charged.
