“Initial interrogation revealed that the JMB operatives were trying to build modules in West Bengal. These terrorists may have links with terror groups Al-Qaeda and HuJI,” police stated.
The three neo-Jamaat-ul- Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terrorists, arrested in Kolkata, had been organising terror modules in West Bengal and may have hyperlinks with Al-Qaeda and Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HuJI), police stated.
It is suspected that they have associates in some districts of the State, a senior officer of the Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police stated on Tuesday.
“Initial interrogation revealed that the JMB operatives were trying to build modules in West Bengal. These terrorists may have links with terror groups Al-Qaeda and Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HuJI). The documents seized from them indicate this,” the officer stated.
The STF arrested JMB operatives Najiur Rahman, Rabiul Islam and Sabir from Haridevpur space in south Kolkata on Sunday. They are Bangladeshi nationals who had used solid paperwork to get a room on lease.
Their linkman, recognized as Salim Munshi, had used the identification card of an unsuspecting aged man to organize a faux identification card for Najiur, the officer stated.
Najiur turned Jayram Byapari in the faux identification card and the aged man his father.
“Munshi had borrowed the identity card from an old man on the pretext that his brother was coming from Bangladesh and required a document to get a licence to drive an auto- rickshaw,” the officer stated.
The three terrorists had come from Bangladesh to Kolkata a number of months in the past and residing in the middle-class neighbourhood.
Several paperwork, together with jihadi supplies, lists of prime JMB leaders and their associates in different terror teams, had been seized from their possession.
A variety of JMB operatives, together with Indians, had been arrested in West Bengal in the previous few years.
The JMB, which carried out a terror assault at a preferred cafe in Dhaka in 2016 in which 22 folks, together with 17 foreigners, had been killed, is making an attempt to unfold its tentacles in India, the NIA had stated in 2019.
