Vayalkilikal, a collective of villagers at Keezhattoor right here, burnt Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in effigy in protest in opposition to the plans to assemble a bypass by the village.
Vayalkilikal chief Suresh Keezhattoor stated the protests in opposition to the development of the Keezhatoor bypass would proceed. He added that the CPI(M) was taking a stand that betrayed the farmers’ struggles.
The protest comes in opposition to the backdrop of Mr. Gadkari and Mr. Vijayan inaugurating nationwide freeway improvement work.
Mr. Keezhattoor stated the development of the bypass wanted to be stopped and Tuesday’s protest was just the start of agitations.
He stated the detailed venture report for the modernisation of the nationwide freeway from Kasaragod to Vengalam (Kozhikode) was ready as per a contract awarded to AECOM in February 2016. Though the venture was for a four-lane street, the NHAI issued tenders for a six-lane street.
He stated that nod for development was given with out assessing the environmental influence. Also, the venture had not but obtained the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) approvals. He additionally questioned the contract issued for development of the part from Neeleswaram to Taliparamba (as much as the Kuttikol river) to Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd.
