Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will launch a water taxi service of the State Water Transport Department (SWTD) in Alappuzha on Thursday.
According to Shaji V. Nair, Director, SWTD, a catamaran diesel-powered craft will be used for the water taxi service. The boat, with a seating capability for 10 passengers, will decide passengers and drop them at their vacation spot. The tariff mounted had been ₹750 for half-hour, Mr. Shaji stated.
It can cruise at a most velocity of 19 knots (35 km/hour). The vessel has been constructed by Kochi-based Navgathi Marine Design and Constructions Private Limited, which constructed the nation’s first photo voltaic ferry, Aditya. The boat comes with a 250-horse energy outboard diesel engine imported from Sweden. Besides, it has an electrical energy steering and photo voltaic panel atop to present sufficient electrical power to fulfil all the facility necessities, together with lights, fan and management system. The SWTD has positioned orders for 4 boats.
Mr. Vijayan may also inaugurate a catamaran boat service with a seating capability of 100 passengers by videoconferencing at 11.30 a.m.
