West Bengal Assembly polls | EC notice to Trinamool leader for ‘beggar’ remark
The Election Commission issued a notice to Trinamool Congress leader Sujata Mondal Khan on Friday for making a “disparaging” touch upon Scheduled Castes, which the EC discovered to be in violation of the mannequin code of conduct (MCC) in drive for the West Bengal ballot.
The EC mentioned it obtained a criticism from a BJP delegation led by Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi about Ms. Khan’s remarks in an interview to a tv channel. The EC notice mentioned she referred to as the SC neighborhood “beggars by nature”. Finding her remarks in violation of the MCC and sections of the Indian Penal Code, the EC requested her to clarify her stand and why her standing as a star campaigner shouldn’t be revoked.
