Youth blindfolded and assaulted by group

The Ammapettai police have begun a probe into the brutal assault of a youth by a group of individuals hailing from his group, a few of whom are stated to be his pals. The youth was thrashed after being accused of stealing cash from a good friend’s home.

As a video clip of the blindfolded youth being attacked by a couple of individuals went viral on social media, triggering outrage, the sufferer reportedly tried to finish his life. He was later admitted to the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital.

Rahul, 22, a labourer of Poondi close to Ammapettai, and his pals used to move sand from watercourses within the Ammapettai area. A sum of ₹30,000 was reported lacking from the home of one among his pals, Lakshmanan of Konur, on February 1.

Mr. Lakshmanan and his pals suspected that Mr. Rahul, who used to frequent the previous’s home, had stolen the cash, and questioned him about it. While doing so, they blindfolded him with a chunk of material and attacked him with wood logs, regardless of his repeated pleas to be let off. In the video clip circulated on social media platforms, the sufferer is held towards a tree and pinned to the bottom whereas being overwhelmed up repeatedly.

The incident was apparently recorded on a cell phone by a good friend of Mr. Lakshmanan. On Wednesday, Mr. Rahul reportedly tried to finish his life, and was rushed to the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital, the place he’s convalescing.

“I was denigrated by Mr. Lakshmanan’s father, who mentioned my caste,” Mr. Rahul stated, including that he determined to finish his life on coming to know that the video clip had gone viral.
