Centre has promised clearances for Mekedatu mission: Karnataka CM

A day after Tamil Nadu unanimously handed a decision urging the Union authorities to not accord permission to Karnataka for the Mekedatu mission within the Cauvery basin, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa claimed that Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on July 13 assured the State of granting clearances for all pending irrigation tasks, together with at Mekedatu.
Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and Mr. Shekhawat reviewed ingesting water and irrigation tasks in Karnataka. The Chief Minister instructed reporters that the Union Minister has promised to supply clearances to pending tasks, together with a balancing reservoir that Karnataka authorities proposes to assemble at Mekedatu within the Cauvery basin.
Mr. Yediyurappa stated the Karnataka authorities had urged Mr. Shekhawat to grant environmental clearances for irrigation tasks and Mekedatu.
On July 12, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin chaired an all-party assembly in Chennai the place a decision was handed saying no building have to be undertaken at Mekedatu with out permission of the downstream States as per the Supreme Court’s judgment.
The Karnataka authorities insisted that the Centre had no motive to stall the proposal since ingesting water was a serious part of the mission.
Prior to the assembly, KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar tweeted: “Today, as Union Minister of Jal Shakti Sri @GSSJodhpur will be conducting a meeting with CM Sri @BSY, we hope that the date of initiation of Mekedatu will be finalised. This project represents hope for Karnataka, and we expect the CM will leave no stone unturned to fulfill it”.
The Chief Minister stated the State authorities urged the Jal Shakti Minister to difficulty Krishna Tribunal Award gazette notification and pending permissions from the Centre for Kalasa Banduri and Yettinahole tasks in Karnataka.
Karnataka urged the Union Minister to declare Upper Bhadra mission as a nationwide mission, Mr. Yediyurappa stated.
